A veneer is a thin shell of porcelain bonded to the front of a tooth. Layered by hand and matched to your face, veneers correct color, shape and proportion in a way whitening alone cannot.

When veneers are the right answer
Veneers solve several problems at once: intrinsic discoloration that does not respond to bleaching, worn or chipped incisal edges, small gaps, and teeth that are individually healthy but poorly proportioned to one another.
If your only concern is color, whitening is cheaper and less invasive, and we will tell you so. If your concern is alignment alone, aligners preserve more tooth structure. Veneers earn their place when shape and color both need to change.
The veneer appointments
Visit one covers photographs, scanning, shade selection and a preview of the planned result. Visit two prepares the teeth conservatively and places well-fitted temporaries you can live in for a couple of weeks.
At the final visit we try the porcelain in before bonding. You see it in daylight, with your own lips and face, and we adjust before anything is permanent.
Caring for veneers
Porcelain does not stain the way natural enamel does, but the tooth and gum around it still need normal brushing, flossing and professional cleanings. Patients who grind should wear a nightguard — it is the single biggest factor in how long veneers last.

- How long do porcelain veneers last?
- With good hygiene and a nightguard where indicated, ten to fifteen years is a realistic expectation, and many last longer.
- Are veneers reversible?
- Because a small amount of enamel is removed, traditional veneers are not reversible. We keep preparation as minimal as the case allows and discuss the trade-off honestly.
- How many veneers will I need?
- It depends on how wide your smile displays. Some patients need two; others need eight to ten for an even result. We plan for symmetry, not a fixed number.
